"Jungle Live In Leningrad N&B Research Digest Download N&B Research Digest is a Russian/Finnish download label run by Anton Nikkilä and Alexei Borisov. This recording from Russian sextet Jungle is jazz rock from the Leningrad Rock Club on 16 March 1985. Made up of guitarist Andrei Otraskin, bass player Igor Tikhomirov, percussionists Pavel Litvinov and Andrei Myagkostupov, together with saxophone players Yuri Orlov and Nikolai Fedorovich, Jungle’s style lurches from melody to manic and back again. Interspersed with beautiful instrumental segments and engaging repeated guitar patterns, Jungle have trace elements of European free jazz and US No Wave along with their Eastern European sensibilities."

"Such was the epochal importance of Husker Du, the memory of the Minnesota trio makes men of a certain age go misty-eyed. After they split it was drummer Grant Hart and guitarist Bob Mould who made the running in the solo stakes while bass player Greg Norton took 15 years off and opened a restaurant with his wife. However, in collaboration with Dave King from Bad Plus, Norton has returned with The Gang Font featuring Interloper. They sound like The Mothers Of Invention playing surf tunes backwards in a space age jazz club. The uptempo roller-riff of “The Familiar Cadence Of Banging” has the playful chaos of The Meat Puppets. Or there’s the jerky hedgehog spiked pop of the delightfully titled “You Haven’t Lived Until You Have Had To Have Read Beowulf”. Intelligent fun for the musically maladjusted."

"Both the name of this Atlanta, Georgia based trio and their album title are references to a short story from American horror writer HP Lovecraft. Celephais was a fictional city created in a dream by a hobo called Kuranes who, when he dies, became the chief god of his imaginary realm. Celephais initially come across like an enjoyable Metal thrashabout, before mutating into something darker, stranger and more involved. The driving force of their sound is retained throughout, but underneath lies a catacomb of intricately tunnelled improvisation, feral looping and muted growling made even creepier by a spectral organ."
